The upcoming Express Entry and PNP admission targets will rise considering the Immigration Levels Plan 2024-2026. IRCC officially revealed the plan on November 1, and Express Entry and PNP targets will rise in the next three years.
The Immigration Levels Plan typically comes out each year and dictates the number of Permanent Residents across the economic immigration class, family, and humanitarian and refugee class.
In 2023’s immigration plan, IRCC has made it evident that the economic immigration programs will continue to grow Canada’s initiatives concerning permanent residence. Express Entry and the 11 Provincial Nominee Programs will take charge of this.
The upcoming Express Entry and PNP admission targets will rise
According to the new Immigration Levels Plan 2024-2026, the following are the targets for Express Entry and PNPs:
- In 2024, the Express Entry target will be 110,770, while the PNP target will be 110,000.
- In 2025, the target for PNPs will be 120,000, while the Express Entry target will be 117,500.
- In 2026, the PNP target will be 120,000, while the Express Entry target will be 117,500.
The leading program for PR admissions from 2024 to 2026
Last year in November, the Immigration Levels Plans for 2023 to 2025 represented that PNP targets had surpassed Express Entry targets. This implied that PNP was the topmost economic pathway in 2022.
In addition, PNPs issued invitations to 83,500 permanent residents, and the plan even reflected that IRCC’s PNP target would increase to 105,000 in 2023. The 2024 and 2025 targets were 110,000 and 117,500, respectively.
However, the newest Immigration Levels Plan for the next three years is set to reinforce Express Entry to take the leading position. However, this will happen in 2024.
For 2025 and 2026, the existing immigration targets have Canada’s PNPs to be among the top.
Express Entry
Canada’s federal government uses Express Entry to tackle immigration applications across three chief economic-class programs. These include the Canadian Experience Class, the Federal Skilled Worker Program, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program.
From June 2023 onwards, Canada functions separately under Express Entry through Category-based selection draws and standard Express Entry draws.
Standard draws under Express Entry focus primarily on candidates through the Comprehensive Ranking System. This indicates that candidates with higher CRS scores receive invitations to apply for PR in Canada.
Essentially, an ITA is the only method for a Canadian immigration candidate to apply for PR in Canada. As of June 28, 2023, IRCC started holding category-based selection draws to admit immigrants with relevant work experience in specific sectors. This turned out to be in response to address the prevailing labor market shortages in Canada.
The following are the six categories chosen by IRCC that will be prioritized in the category-based draws:
- Trade occupations
- Healthcare
- STEM occupations
- Agriculture and Agri-food industry
- Transport occupations
PNPs
The Provincial Nominee Programs enable the local provincial or territorial governments with the ability to choose specific immigration candidates. These candidates will be most appropriate for helping Canada bridge the labor market gap and address the economic issues.
In addition, PNPs will be able to promote the social, cultural, and economic immigration benefits across Canada. As a result, there will be enhanced immigration in several parts of Canada other than Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.
