The work permit process for IT Professionals

The IT sector is specifically in-demand because of its significant contribution to the Canadian economy. Overall, several work permit alternatives are available for individuals in the IT sector. The government of Canada speeds up the processing of these work permits.

Three primary options for IT professionals are the Global Talent Stream, Intra-Company Transferees, and CUSMA professionals.

Global Talent Stream

The main focus of the GTS is to help foreign employers recruit foreign tech talent. The Global Talent Stream also helps skilled professional workers to acquire a work permit after they apply for it. They get the work permit within two weeks of applying.

Additionally, employers under the GTS might be required to become eligible for an LMIA. The Labor Market Impact Assessment makes sure that hiring foreign talent will not pose a threat to Canadian workers.

The tech sector includes several occupations such as Computer Programmers, Information System Analysts, Consultants, Media Developers, Software Engineers and Designers, and Managers of Computer and Information Systems.

CUSMA Professionals

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement opens the work permit gateway for qualifying U.S and Mexican Nationals. CUSMA issues work permits that don’t require Canadian employers to get an LMIA done. They can recruit IT, professionals, from foreign countries to work faster.

CUSMA comprises a list of CUSMA professional work permits list with over 60 occupations qualifying for work permits. Most of the professions listed here belong to the tech sector. These professions include technical publication writers, computer engineers, computer systems analysts, and graphic designers.

Intra-Company Transferees

ICT is a work permit type not requiring an LMIA. The foreign worker to become eligible for the Intra-Company Transferees work permit must have employment in any foreign company for at least 1 year. Both companies must have a qualifying connection with each other. They must be an affiliate, subsidiary, parent, or branch form of the other. The ICT work permit has three primary classifications implying the qualification of a worker. The third classification applies to workers possessing specialized information regarding the company or its products.

This is the work permit process for the IT professional’s eligibility to acquire it.
