Three Canadian regions announce designated employers for RCIP, i.e., Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP).
The newly announced regions include Peace Liard and North Okanagan-Shuswap in British Columbia, as well as Pictou County in Nova Scotia.
Pictou County, located in central-northern Nova Scotia, has now joined the program by revealing its own list of designated employers to support skilled workers through the rural pathway.
The RCIP is designed to provide a permanent residence (PR) option for skilled foreign workers who receive job offers from designated employers within participating rural communities.

Why Are Designated Employers Important In The RCIP?
As three Canadian regions announce designated employers for RCIP, let us see why the designated employers are important in the RCIP.
Well, the RCIP operates as an employer-driven immigration program.
This means that foreign nationals must first secure a job offer from a designated employer to qualify. Alongside the job offer, applicants also need to meet several other requirements:
- Work Experience: At least one year (1,560 hours) of relevant experience in the last three years. However, international graduates from recognized institutions in the region may be exempt.
- Language Proficiency: Applicants must demonstrate English or French skills. The required Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level ranges from 4 to 6, depending on the TEER category of the job.
- Education: A Canadian secondary school diploma or an equivalent foreign credential is required.
- Settlement Funds: Candidates must show they have enough funds to support themselves and their family during settlement. The amount is updated annually.
Once a worker meets the eligibility requirements and secures a job offer, the employer must seek endorsement for the offer from the local economic development organization in their community.
If the endorsement is approved, the worker can then apply directly to the federal government for permanent residence.
Growing Demand For RCIP Across Communities
Since its introduction, the RCIP has generated strong interest. Currently, 14 communities are taking part in the program, with nearly all of them, except Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, which are already active and accepting applications.
