Know all about Alberta Advantage Immigration Program

Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) consists of eight pathways that help individuals receive a nomination to attain permanent residency through the provincial government. More emphasis is being laid on businessmen in Alberta province compared to other provinces in Canada.

Defining Provincial Nomination

Provincial Nominee Program enables provinces to welcome more new immigrants to meet the labor shortage gap. Suppose a candidate fulfills the provincial immigration requirements of a specific provincial stream, they’ll be able to apply to IRCC for PR. Each Canadian province has a PNP associated with it. However, Quebec remains an exception as it has separate immigration programs. Similarly, Nunavut also operates with its immigration programs.

Requirement of PNP for Alberta

Alberta is also facing struggles with labor shortages similar to the other Canadian provinces. The province is looking forward to welcoming more skilled workers to stay in the province to enhance its economy

Alberta has constructed a detailed strategy to meet its objective of acquiring global talent with featured initiatives, such as training newcomers through the IQAS (International Qualification Assessment Service).

The strategy has been introduced as a means of economic establishment for immigrants in an attempt to help Alberta meet the labor force demands.

Immigration streams- AAIP

Interested candidates can choose from Alberta’s eight immigration pathways, with two categories: Stream of Workers and Stream of Entrepreneurs.

Category of streams of workers

The stream of workers category includes three streams, the Alberta Express Entry Stream, Alberta Opportunity Stream, and Rural Renewal Stream.

The Alberta Express Entry Stream

The Alberta Express Entry Stream applies to candidates with Express Entry profiles and for those who fulfill eligibility for the Federal Skilled Worker Program, CEC, or even the Federal Skilled Trade Program.

The province might invite candidates from the federal pool of the Express Entry system and receive a nomination through this stream. Those candidates who have been able to prove their strengthened ties with Alberta and who also have a profile created will be considered directly for nomination.

Candidates don’t have direct access to apply for the Alberta Express Entry Stream.

Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway is also a part of the Express Entry and applies to those candidates holding work experience in any of the 38 occupations of the tech industry.

Alberta Opportunity Stream

This stream allows candidates to self-check their eligibility and directly apply with an Expression of Interest to the province.

Eligible candidates must already be working in the province based on a Temporary Foreign Worker Permit and possess a valid and continuous employment offer from Alberta’s employer. The stream also applies to candidates who are international graduates and have completed studies at Alberta’s Designated Learning Institute.

Rural Renewal Stream

The Rural Renewal Stream is a pathway for candidates who hold valid job offers outside the urban areas of Alberta. Specific rural communities are designated and provide a letter of support to candidates after recruitment.

The minimum qualification to be eligible under this stream is the completion of post-secondary school.

Entrepreneur Streams

There are four pathways under the Entrepreneur stream for new immigrants intending to establish farms and businesses in Alberta.

Rural Entrepreneur Stream

To qualify under this stream, candidates must ensure that they must have three years of business experience. They will also be required to go to a designated rural community and display a business plan. On receiving support from the community, they can directly apply with an EOI for the AAIP.

Graduate Entrepreneur Stream

Eligible candidates must be International Graduates who have already completed a two-year program at a post-secondary institution of the Alberta Advanced Education that is publicly funded. Having a Post-Graduation Work Permit with a minimum of six months of business management or ownership experience also makes one eligible for this stream.

Farm Stream

This stream is explicitly developed for the promotion of agriculture in Alberta. Purchase of a new farm or an existing farm in the province is the eligibility condition. They must possess the essential farm management skills either acquired through experience or education.

Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream

Completing post-secondary education outside Canada with an intention to develop a business in Alberta allows candidates to become eligible under this stream. Candidates must be adept at owning and managing a business for a minimum of six months. They also demonstrate a business plan and provide an ECA Educational Credential Assessment.
