Work permits by IRCC extended in Canada

The Canadian Government is still implying the Temporary Resident Visa for temporary residents having a valid job offer can apply for work permits. It was launched in August 2020 but it will be implemented till February 28, 2023.  

This policy gives the TRV applicants the freedom to start working while they have applied for an employer-specific work permit.  

Although it is not a permanent policy, otherwise the TRV applicants can only change status only while leaving the country.  

What are the requirements to apply for employer-specific work permits  

To apply for employer-specific work permits, a candidate has to meet the below requirements  

  • He/she should be living in Canada 
  • An employer-specific work permit application must be submitted  
  • The candidate must reside in Canada from the time of submitting the application  
  • The application has to be submitted by February 2023  

What is Interim Authorization to Work  

Before the implementation of Interim Authorization to Work, temporary visa residents were not allowed to apply for work permits. Rather they had to submit an application for a work permit to their native country’s visa office. After the approval of the application for a work permit, the candidate is obliged to depart from the country and needs to rejoin to process the work permit.  

Because of the pandemic, immigrants could not flagpole. The procedure of returning to Canada after leaving to restart the temporary status. Amidst the pandemic, the IRCC had given the freedom of submitting applications for work permits to IRCC for temporary residents.  

IRCC takes about 132 days to process the work permit applications. Until then, the temporary residents are not allowed to work till the approval of a work permit.  

The IRCC launched the policy of “Interim Authorization to Work.” The candidate who has met all the requirements of the eligibility criteria can receive authorization really quickly. This method enables the applicants to resume working while their application is still under processing. The purpose served by doing this is that it helps in fulfilling the labor shortages. 

The IRCC prefers candidates with a work permit from the last year to assist employees who have been terminated in the pandemic. 

If the application is approved, then Interim Authorization allows the candidate to start working.  

What are the eligibility criteria for Interim Authorization 

Visitors applying for a work permit while having a work permit in 1 year, you can also be allowed to work while your work permit is still being processed by the IRCC.   

The IRCC demands the below requirements  

  • At the time of application, the candidate should reside in the country  
  • Should possess a valid visitor status at the time of the application for a work permit 
  • The visitor status should be activated at the time of the application  
  • The application has to be applied for under the employer-specific work permit  
  • The old permit should have a validity of a year before applying for the new permit.  

Completing these requirements keeps you 2 steps away from getting an Interim Authorization  

Step 1: Connecting to IRCC  

The candidates have to fill in the IRCC Webform once they have completed applying for a work permit. 

Fill in all the details like dates, the number of your work permit, the title of the job you do, and the name of the Canadian employer. 

Applicants who have applied through paper mode can add the number of their courier track. This helps the IRCC in tracking your application.  

Step 2: Holding on to hearing from IRCC  

It takes about a month or more for IRCC to respond through an e-mail regarding whether to resume working.
