IRCC revealed the Parents and Grandparents Program 2023 update
Randomly selected sponsors from the pending submission of the pool of 2020 will receive invitations to apply. Those who submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020 but failed to receive an ITA to apply in 2021 and 2022 must check their email account (of 2020). This is because of the remaining forms in the pool in 2020.
If you receive invitations to apply for the 2023 intake, IRCC will keep up the following portals:
- Permanent Residence Portal
- Representative Permanent Residence Portal
This will enable the digital submission of applications.
Immigration Levels Plan
In 2022, IRCC sent invitations to 23,100 aspiring sponsors to apply for sponsoring their parents and grandparents. The main goal is to obtain up to 15,000 applications.
Each year, IRCC reveals its Immigration Levels Plan to outline the objectives of welcoming new immigrants to Canada. In 2023, Canada’s target for newcomers is to welcome 465,000 new permanent residents. The country aims to achieve the target of 500,000 newcomers and 36,000 parents and grandparents.
The Super Visa
Canadian citizens and permanent Residents can access a prominent Super Visa option if they seek to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada. A Super Visa is a type of temporary visa that helps parents and grandparents to visit their family for up to 5 years continuously. They will not need to renew their status as a visitor. Super Visa holders can enter the country for up to ten years. Those already holding a Super Visa might be permitted to apply for a visa extension. This visa status extension will permit them to reside in Canada for up to seven years as visitors.
The Super Visa has no lottery and remains accessible throughout the year. Moreover, this is a more certain option for those looking to sponsor their parents and grandparents.
To gain eligibility for Super Visa, applicants must fulfill the following:
- Ensure they are parents and grandparents to those with Canadian Permanent Residence or Canadian citizenship.
- Must not have any previous record of criminal or medical inadmissibility.
- Demonstrate proof that they can fulfill Low Income Cut-Off requirements.
- Their child must sign a letter asking them to come to Canada. Also, the letter must demonstrate the commitment toward the applicants regarding financial responsibility. Their grandchildren will need to take their financial responsibility for the duration of their stay. This will include the number of people (of their household) accompanying the parents and grandparents to Canada.
- They must be able to provide proper proof of medical insurance coverage for one year. The coverage must be from a Canadian insurance firm.
