The Recent Express Entry Healthcare Draw Issued 3500 ITAs – More on Category-Based Draws

IRCC launched the Express Entry category-based selection draws with six new categories. These new categories were primarily based on certain human capital characteristics. One of the six categories is for candidates with strong French language abilities. The rest of the five categories include the following occupations:

  • Healthcare Occupations;
  • STEM professions – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics;
  • Trade Occupations – Carpenters, Plumbers and Contractors;
  • Transport Occupations;
  • Agriculture and Agri-Food Occupations

Candidates must demonstrate eligibility for an Express Entry program, and their profile must be present in the application pool under any of the programs based on category-selection draws.

The conception of these categories occurred after various consultations with different stakeholders, immigration researchers, employers, and provincial and territorial governments. These categories came into existence only to fill the labor gaps and bring in suitable candidates for vacant jobs.

Express Entry

Express Entry tackles applications through the economic-class programs: the Canadian Experience Class, the FSTP, and the Federal Skilled Worker Program. These programs operate through the Comprehensive Ranking System. The CRS determines scores for each candidate based on specific human capital factors, including age, education, occupation, work experience, and language skills.

Every human capital factor has a point value attached to it through which it receives its overall CRS score. Only after acquiring a CRS score can these candidates enter the application pool. They also receive a rank to compete against candidates, and those who attain the highest score are likely to receive an ITA. Once they get the ITA, they will need to submit the final application to IRCC for Canadian permanent residence.
