2025 Nomination Allocation

As Newfoundland and Labrador issues immigration invitations, let us look at this year’s nomination allocation.

Well, the province originally received an allocation of just 1,050 nominations for 2025. However, after negotiations with the federal government, that number nearly doubled. Newfoundland and Labrador now has 2,050 spaces for the year under the NLPNP.

For the Atlantic Immigration Program, the province was allotted 475 spaces. This expanded allocation highlights the province’s commitment to addressing labour market shortages by welcoming skilled workers and their families.

How To Qualify For The NLPNP?

In 2025, Newfoundland and Labrador transitioned to an Expression of Interest (EOI) system instead of the old first-come, first-served intake.

To be considered, candidates must:

  1. Submit an EOI to the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism (OIM).
  2. Wait for the OIM to review profiles and issue ITAs in batches throughout the year.
  3. Ensure their EOI matches the province’s labour market needs and aligns with its evolving economic priorities.

Currently, Newfoundland and Labrador is prioritizing workers in key sectors, including:

  • Healthcare
  • Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
  • Aquaculture

Each of these sectors has specific in-demand occupations. Candidates with the right skills and experience stand a stronger chance of receiving an ITA.

How To Qualify For The AIP?

The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) is another major pathway available in the province. It allows foreign nationals with qualifying job offers to settle and work in one of the four Atlantic provinces:

  • New Brunswick
  • Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Nova Scotia
  • Prince Edward Island

To qualify, candidates must have:

  • A job offer from a designated employer under the AIP.
  • Required education, work experience, and language proficiency.
  • Proof of settlement funds.

Candidates must also obtain a settlement plan from the province before applying for permanent residence through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

While waiting for their PR application to be processed, successful AIP applicants can apply for a two-year work permit, enabling them to begin employment in Canada right away.

With this latest draw, Newfoundland and Labrador continues to demonstrate its proactive approach to immigration. By inviting candidates through both the NLPNP and AIP, the province is ensuring that its workforce needs are met while also supporting newcomers in their journey toward permanent settlement in Canada.
