Ontario is targeting more immigrants.
Every year, a specific number of nominations is assigned by the federal department of IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) to all the provinces and territories, which are running Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).
For this year, the province of Ontario was allocated 8,350 nominations and an additional 250 nominations. The latter number of allocations is for temporary foreign workers employed in NOC Skill Level C (intermediate-skilled) occupations.
Until November 10, 2021, the province of Ontario has invited 8,600 immigration candidates. In an interview in October, Ontario’s immigration minister, Monte McNaughton, said that the province had approached the federal government to double up its allocations for 2022.
Furthermore, the province has recently implemented the Working for Workers Act. This Act aims to settle immigrant workers into regulated industries other than the healthcare sector. This will forbid regulatory bodies from asking for Canadian work experience, eliminate the requirement for a language test for licensing purposes, and will also speed up the licensing procedure, especially in emergency situations.
