The best five Canadian cities to reside in the world are Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, Montreal, and Ottawa, among the top 100 cities. Toronto held the 24th position on the list of 100 cities, as reported by British Columbia’s marketing consultancy, called Resonance Consultancy.
The list of 100 cities for living consists of global cities that have a population of more than one million people. Several factors contribute to this list and its rankings, such as outdoor space, nightlife, weather, universities, GDP, force participation, attractions, etc.
Among other Canadian cities on the list, Toronto grabbed first because of its economic growth led by immigration and global investments.
The report claims that 50 percent of Toronto’s population is foreign-born, making the community diverse. The ranking received by Toronto is also due to its top-notch education system.
Officially, the first position went to London for the 7th time, with Kyiv holding a number one honorary ranking since it faced massive challenges due to the Russian Invasion. Additionally, Moscow, Russia’s capital city, officially held the fourth position in 2022. However, now it doesn’t occupy the same position and no longer holds a place on the list. Similarly, even St. Petersburg is no more on the list.
London’s top ranking is also due to global investment, luxury, interesting nightlife, and tourism. The top ten cities on the list are New York, Dubai, Barcelona, Singapore, Madrid, Paris, Tokyo, Rome, and Amsterdam.
Best Four Canadian Cities
The other four Canadian cities that are best to reside in, along with their positions, are:
- Montreal- 57
- Calgary- 65
- Vancouver- 69
- Ottawa- 96
Additionally, this survey emphasizes these four places because they consist of a thick immigrant population. Next is Montreal, whose high score is due to its culture, while Calgary held a higher rank with increased GDP and the youth population. On the other hand, we have Vancouver, which gained a high rank due to its natural setup. Whereas Ottawa managed to remain on the list due to its low cost of living.
Canada seeks to achieve higher levels of immigration
Canada recently declared the new Canadian immigration targets for 2023 to 2025. The country aims to receive at least 500,000 new permanent residents annually by 2025. Additionally, the new immigration targets continue to break 2021 previous records 2021, with around 405,000 immigrants and close to 432,000 immigrants in 2022.
Canada holds a status of high reputation because of its safety, security, political stability, and acceptance. These are all factors that mostly appeal to immigrants and immigration is the most significant reason behind Canadian cities being on the list.
An increasing number of immigrants have settled here and contributed to the economy and diversity of this country.
Specifically, the plan works with an immigration objective of over 60 percent of new permanent residents using the Express Entry, an economic immigration pathway.
Moreover, Canada is in ardent need of skilled workers to fill the drastic labor shortage as most of the aging population is bound to meet their retirement age.
As a matter of fact, even the national birth rate is very low to resolve the Canadian labor shortage. Hence, Canada heavily depends upon immigration to strengthen its economy.
