Candidates in ten priority occupations are invited to apply for Ontario’s PNP

On 23rd June, Ontario sent an invitation to 583 Qualified Applicants to request a provincial nomination.

Selected applicants got Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores ranging from 464 to 467 in the Express Entry system.

Applicants who could be qualified for the Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream were asked to apply by the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). This Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allows migrant workers to start their professional careers in Ontario and relocate to Canada’s most populated region.

The OINP sought applicants who have professional experience in one of the following ten professions to apply for a provincial nominee program in this draw:

  • Corporate sales managers (NOC 0601);
  • Financial auditors and accountants (NOC 1111);
  • Financial and investment analysts (NOC 1112);
  • Banking, credit and other investment managers (NOC 0122);
  • Advertising, marketing and public relations managers (NOC 0124);
  • Professional occupations in business management consulting (NOC 1122);
  • Registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses (NOC 3012); and
  • Business development officers and marketing researchers and consultants (NOC 4163);
  • Human resources professionals (NOC 1121);
  • Other business services managers (NOC 0125).

These professions were the same as those addressed in Ontario’s earlier HCP drawings on 2nd February and 2nd March.

To try and acquire the provincial nomination, invited applicants must have at least 12 months of job experience in one of these professions. Those individuals will be first in line for an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for PR if selected under this or any other Express Entry-linked PNP.

What role do provincial nominations have in obtaining ITAs for Express Entry applicants?

Individuals who are nominated by a PNP get a 600 CRS point boost to their total score. This practically ensures that they will be given an ITA in the next Express Entry round.

During the outbreak, IRCC held PNP-only draws, in which applicants were only invited if they had a PNP.

In 2020, Canada had PNP-only with all-program drawings in the second part of the year. In those drawings, all applicants who scored above the CRS threshold were invited.

The Express Entry system in Canada

Express Entry is a mechanism for managing applications for three federal high-skilled immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Once an applicant is accepted into the Express Entry pool, IRCC assigns points based on human capital considerations and their given demographic details. Top scorers are then invited to request PR in the country.
