Home Support Workers can still apply for Canadian Immigration under its pilot program

The Home Support Worker Pilot program is still operational, and Canada is welcoming the applications.

The official webpage of the Canadian government has mentioned that the pilot has not achieved the cap yet. They will update the information on the page if they decide to close the application for the program.

The Home Child Care Provider Pilot was also launched along with the first one, but that has reached the cap. For that pilot, 2,750 applications have been received so far, and more applicants can apply after its reopening on 1st January 2021.

Individuals who have applied for either pilot are not required to approach Canadian immigration now. When the processing starts, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will send invites to the applicants. Because of the pandemic, it could take a little longer than usual.

These two programs’ pilot is for five years at the moment. They allow qualified caregivers to bring their families to Canada and submit an application for PR.

Foreign caregivers who have been offered jobs in the same profession can apply for PR through one of the two programs.

The application process does not have defined guidelines and requirements as it varies according to the applicant’s qualifying experience and situation.

Qualifying experience means having regular experience as a home support worker or child care provider. Foster parents or housekeeper experience will not be considered.

How does the program operate?

Individuals having 24 months of qualifying experience in either field can apply under the relevant program. While applying, the applicants will have to show proof of their qualifying work experience.

If the applicants applying for any of the pilots meet all other eligibility prerequisites, then they may not need the full 24 months of work as a compulsion.

Individuals who have experience in home support work can apply at the moment, but the child care providers will have to wait till 2021.

Interested candidates will have to apply for a work permit too while applying for PR. If they meet the prerequisites, then they will be given a temp work permit. The permit will be an occupation-limited open work permit. That will allow the candidate to work for any employer as a caregiver, provided no government has blacklisted them.

When the applicants gain 24 months of qualifying experience, they can let the Canadian government know and send their proof. The final call will be taken on their application then.
