The Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI) asked individuals who had submitted an Expression of Interest (EOI) via Quebec’s online portal, Arrima, to participate in the Regular Skilled Worker Program (RSWP).
An expression of interest is not the same as a formal application. It’s a means for applicants to let Quebec’s Ministry of Immigration know that they want to be eligible for a Quebec Selection Certificate, or CSQ. Applicants can check for permanent residence (PR) in the country after receiving a CSQ.
Individuals who received the invite in the latest round of invites had to have an offer of employment that had been validated.
Quebec is holding its fifth drawing for 2021. The province has been sending out invites on a regular basis this year. The province has requested a total of 545 applicants to apply for the final selection this year.
Quebec’s immigration streams are run by the local government and are governed by criteria and procedures that are unique from those used by the federal streams. However, the final decision depends on IRCC.
Arima story
Arima was developed in 2018 to handle the RSWP candidate pool and to simplify the application intake process. The earlier process was previously based on a “first-come, first-served” strategy.
Applicants aged 18 and up who want to immigrate to the province through the RSWP should first register an EOI form in Arima. After that, applicants will be involved in a pool of candidates.
MIFI then selects the best applicants based on a variety of factors, including current provincial labor market demands and the individual’s great ability to assimilate into Quebec society.
Those who have been asked to apply for final selection have 60 days of time to finish an immigration application, pay the relevant costs, and show all other necessary documentation.
Expected Immigration Numbers
Both the Quebec administration and the federal government have committed to raising immigration goals in the foreseeable future. Quebec hopes to welcome up to 47,500 newcomers by 2021. In the meantime, Canada expects to welcome over 400,000 immigrants through its different immigration streams in the coming year.
