IRCC is now open to Caregiver Pilot Program applications for 2024

IRCC is now open to Caregiver Pilot Program applications for 2024. The immigration department will re-evaluate the cap and commence the two Caregiver Pilot Programs’ applications. These two programs are as follows:

  • Home Childcare Provider Pilot
  • Home Support Worker Pilot: Category of Direct to Permanent Residency

These programs are primarily meant for applicants with considerable work experience in Caregiving. Both these pilot programs commenced in 2019 and will expire on June 17, 2024. These two programs have shown prominence, with around 1,100 Caregivers and their families gaining Canadian Permanent Residence in 2022.

IRCC suggested qualifying candidates to apply sooner. The Home Child Care Provider Pilots had a cap of 1,000 for digital applicants in 2023. They reached this cap on April 14, 2023. However, the website states about open spaces for applicants under the Home Support Worker Pilot in 2023.

IRCC is now open to Caregiver Pilot Program applications for 2024 – Work experience requirement was reduced to half in 2023

IRCC declared that the work experience requirement for Caregivers would be 12 months from 24 months in February 2023. This was full-time work experience. The change will likely influence 90 percent of applicants for immigration programs under the Caregiver Pilot. IRCC defines full-time work experience as 30 hours of paid employment every week. In addition, candidates need to acquire work experience within 36 months before a candidate’s application submission. Therefore, work experience as a student will not be eligible.

Other candidate’s work experience requirements fall under certain NOC codes. IRCC also states that candidates must have Canadian work experience in one of these jobs, which can’t be an amalgamation of two jobs.

Furthermore, the candidate’s job requirements must align with the NOC job description. In addition, the candidates must accomplish a majority of the core duties.

Other requirements for candidates turned out to be the same in 2023. For instance, they must showcase the following:

  • Language Test Results demonstrating a Canadian Language Benchmark of 5 points.
  • One year of post-secondary education in Canada or foreign equivalency.
  • Clearing an admissibility check concerning health, security, and criminality.

Temporary Resident Caregivers

Caregivers without eligibility for Permanent Residence under these particular programs will be able to apply to extend their work permit through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.

In order to do so, their employer must initially gain positive or neutral LMIA. A Labor Market Impact Assessment that an employer will submit to ESDC to prove that they couldn’t hire a Canadian or permanent resident with appropriate skills to complete an in-demand work position.

Employers may choose to hire a foreign national under the TFWP if ESDC determines that doing so will either have no effect at all or a positive impact on Canada’s economy. Workers in the TFWP are prohibited from working for any other employer in Canada due to their restricted work permit status.
