IRCC Raised Number of Permits for Palestinians In Special Measure

Canada’s immigration department has recently made a notable announcement concerning the temporary special measures for Palestinian families in Gaza. As per the announcement, IRCC raised the number of permits for Palestinians. Find out more details about the announcement and eligibility criteria for the permit.

IRCC Raised Number of Permits for Palestinians from 1000 to 5000

Per the announcement, IRCC will accept and process more applications under special measures for Palestinian families. In January, IRCC declared that it would process around 1000 temporary resident visa (TRV) applications for applicants from Gaza who are families of citizens and PRs of Canada.

IRCC’s minister, Miller, announced on May 27 that IRCC will increase the processing to 5000 applications.

He added that the department has been issuing more web codes for TRV applicants during the last few weeks. He stated that it’s impossible to move out of Gaza, but the situation may change at any time. With this quota increase, the department will be able to help more individuals as the situation progresses. Minister Marc Miller added that our primary focus remains on keeping families together.

The department is supplying local authorities with the names of individuals who have passed the preliminary screening. This will assist them in escaping from Gaza.

Who is eligible for the TRV applications under special measures?

According to the latest information available, in order to be eligible for the TRV, individuals must satisfy the following specified eligibility criteria for one of the two groups.

For Group 1, applicants must:

  • hold a passport or travel document authorized by the Palestinian government
  • At the time of application submission, they must be within the Gaza Strip
  • not be objectionable to Canada for reasons other than financial ones
  • have a qualified anchor
  • have one of the following relations with the anchor:
    • spouse or common-law partner
    • child (irrespective of age)
    • grandchild
    • parent
    • grandparent
    • sibling, half-siblings or adopted siblings

For the family members of individuals who satisfy the Group 1 criteria, there is also a Group 2. According to IRCC, family members are defined as:

  • A spouse or common-law partner
  • A dependent child of yours, your spouse’s, or your common-law partner’s
  • A dependent child of a dependent child

Eligibility criteria of anchors

The following are the eligibility criteria that anchors must satisfy. The anchor must be:

  • Citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • 18 years of age or older
  • related to the person mentioned in Group 1
  • living or planning to live in Canada
  • Inclined to help the applicant and their family for at least one year to allow them to settle and integrate into Canada

According to the department, certain applicants may need to complete a medical exam if they have been in any designated countries or territories for six months or more within the year before entering Canada. The exam must be done after leaving Gaza.

How can you apply for the TRV?

In order to disclose your personal information, eligible applicants must submit a statutory declaration and a consent form.

After completing this stage, applicants must submit a web crisis form per family unit, including the Group 1 applicant and their family members. After that, every individual in the statutory declaration form will obtain a unique web reference code.

IRCC suggested that you submit the final TRV application ASAP when you obtain a code, as a code does not guarantee a space.
